Print Promos

Ashok Sinha is an NYC-based photographer with a an impressive resume. From high-end residences to hidden studios, his work has taken him to intimate places not often seen.

With a carefully curated interiors portfolio, Ashok wanted to showcase this work in a design-focused promo. One that he would send to firms, publications, and industry connections alike. I worked with Ashok to translate his unique vision to voice. Listening to the distinct stories and experiences that have aided him in his craft.

Moments like photographing the homes of Michael Imperioli and Maude Apatow. Getting to know these public-facing subjects in their own private space. Or seeing a view from a ballet studio in New York City that hasn’t been accessible to the public for over thirty years.

Together with a photo editor and designer we developed a format that would balance the images and copy. Thoughtfully introducing Ashok’s background, process, and the notable projects he’s collected along the way. As a final element, we decided to add a QR code at the end of the promo for easy access to his website portfolio.

Ashok sent the mini-mag to over 100 nationally-recognized design clients hoping to open conversations and share his perspective. In turn, he received an overwhelmingly positive response, with many contacts appreciating his sense of his enthusiasm and curiosity. Sometimes it just takes a physical promo to open the door for ongoing relationships with your dream clients.

I’ve work with Clay Cook on many ghostwriting projects. Helping to contribute to his photography blog when it became difficult to maintain. But Clay had one project that felt bigger than a blog post, something tangible and real that he wanted to live on in print.

Clay and his wife Colleen have individual careers, but a unique opportunity connected their work long before the two were married. As a lifestyle photographer Clay was perfectly suited to help Colleen showcase her incredible non-profit, Anchal.

Training artisans in Ajmer, India the organization aids the women of this region with the means to hone a skill as a seamstress. One that allows them in earn a wage and provide for their families. Working with recycled Sarees and natural dyes, the artisans turn discarded fabric into garments and accessories that are sold in Europe & the US.

After many years of planning, Clay came to India to tour the studio, meet the artisans, and photograph their portraits. Upon hearing many of the stories first hand he knew he wanted to honor their resilience and share their experience with a wider audience. He debuted the portraits, accompanying audio from the artisans, and the garments at a large-scale exhibition at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft.

Wanting to share the success of this collaboration with clients and industry colleagues, Clay asked me to help write a promo. He hoped it could feature his portraits and images alongside the story of the artisans and his time in Ajmer. Clay opted for printed cards in a box, that could be interlaid with the fabrics that the artisans made. I helped him develop copy that aligned with his voice and spoke to his deep dedication to this project.

As a final element, I helped Clay source a box manufacturer, working with a designer to bring his signature branding style into this physical manifestation of his work. After sending it to contacts at notable agencies and brands, Clay was pleased with the positive feedback his promo received. Many individuals appreciated the physical display and a few even went on to mention they had framed some of the mini-portraits and fabric, finding them a beautiful addition to their personal art collections.
