Marketing the Magic of Girlhood

When children’s Lifestyle photographer Caitie McCabe reached out to us for a Custom Client List Build for her new marketing promotion project, I had no idea how quickly I’d fall in love with what she was building. Titled the “Girlhood Box,” this promo is a beautifully curated celebration of childhood, creativity, and connection, all inspired by the cultural wave of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

Caitie is no stranger to creative promotions. Her earlier project, a photography series based on the concept of how to build a rocket, was a major success. It ultimately landed her an in-house position with Walt Disney World Parks in Orlando. This time, she wanted to dive into the universal appeal of Taylor Swift and the lifestyle her fans (Swifties) embody.

Making the Whole Place Shimmer

To enhance the interactive aspect of the campaign, Caitie also built a companion experience on her website. This is a dedicated space where recipients of the Girlhood Box (and curious Swifties alike) can dive deeper into the world she created. This section serves as a digital home base for the project where visitors can unlock clues, uncover hidden details, and explore the full scope of the story she’s telling. It’s part scavenger hunt, part fan tribute, and all heart, allowing people to engage with the promotion well beyond the initial mailing. So, who received the box?

That’s where I came in. As a self-proclaimed Swiftie and passionate marketer, I helped Caitie connect her vision with the right audience. In general, our Client List Build services help photographers clarify their unique value and define exactly who they should be marketing to. We then craft a focused and customized, high-value contact list that is designed to support long-term outreach and growth. In particular, our Custom Client List Build service is designed for photographers with highly specific or niche targeting needs. Unlike a Standard List Build (where we deliver a set number of contacts), a Custom Build focuses on deep, focused research within a set time frame. We don’t guarantee a specific number of contacts but instead, deliver all relevant findings and qualified leads that match the exact criteria.

It Was All by Design

The process began with a review of Caitie’s website and her responses to our pre-consulting marketing questionnaire, which gave me a good sense of her goals. Next, we met via video call and identified her target audience in terms of specialty, type, vertical market, locations, job titles, and some other more specific criteria.

The next step was to do the research. I was able to develop a hand-curated list of 50 contacts, focused primarily on fashion brands and companies whose target audience is mainly young girls. We prioritized individuals likely to be Swifties or parents of Swiftie-age daughters. This information wasn’t always readily available. However, even when we couldn’t be sure if someone was a Swiftie, we leaned on a simple truth: everyone knows one.

We were able to successfully coordinate all our efforts as well as help Caitie organize all the new contact information we were collecting with our CRM Setup service.

Results (Taylor’s Version)

Whether you’re a Swiftie or simply Swiftie-adjacent, there’s something here for you to love. And that’s exactly what Caitie set out to capture with her lens. Interestingly, Caitie wasn’t a Swiftie before this project. But, as she explored the culture and joy surrounding Taylor Swift’s fandom, she was quickly swept off her feet by its inclusivity, nostalgia, and playfulness — qualities that mirror her photographic style. Working within the niche of photographing young girls and preteens, Caitie created a visual experience that taps into the heart of the Swiftie movement. The impact of Caitie’s work was immediate. Shortly after the first round of boxes was sent out, prominent sneaker brand Converse reached out to explore a potential photoshoot collaboration.

This wasn’t just a marketing assist, it was a true creative collaboration. I worked closely with Caitie from the earliest stages, helping her shape the vision of the Girlhood Box with a Swiftie’s lens. From brainstorming clever taglines and crafting emotionally resonant email copy to offering feedback on which references and details would be most recognizable and meaningful to fellow fans, I was embedded in the storytelling process. I also helped write a new professional bio for Caitie as part of a parallel project, ensuring her personality and creative strengths came through clearly to potential partners.

A Dream Team

Together, this collaboration was about more than just marketing a photography project, it became a celebration of story, community, and connection. Caitie’s images capture that spirit, reminding us that the Swiftie lifestyle transcends age, music taste, and even gender. It’s not just for fans; it’s for anyone who’s ever felt the magic of girlhood or knows someone who has.

Beyond this promotion, Caitie and I have continued to work together, building targeted client lists and planning additional email campaigns designed to connect her with brands and audiences that align with her unique photographic voice.
